President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides more than $20 billion which the DOE will oversee in using to establish the DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations.
The creation of this new office will spotlight the importance of the DOE’s movement towards clean energy research and development and their goal to reach net-zero emissions. It will concentrate on projects and technology in areas including clean hydrogen, carbon capture, grid-scale energy storage, small modular reactors, and more.
Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm stated, “Thanks to the investments Congress made… the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations will move clean energy technologies out of the lab and into local and regional economies across the country, proving the value of technologies that can deliver for communities, businesses, and markets.”
This investment is just a small part of the Infrastructure Law that will supercharge DOE’s work on clean energy. The demonstrations will fund projects that will lead to follow-on investment from the private sector that will utilize these technologies, delivering clean energy and creating good-paying jobs in communities across the country.
“This new Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations reflects President Biden’s commitment to help Americans turn on the lights in their homes, drive to work, and power their businesses using clean, affordable, and sustainable energy. This office will make life easier and safer for Americans across the country,” said Mitch Landrieu, White House Senior Advisor and Infrastructure Implementation Coordinator.
The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations programs will also invest in demonstration projects in rural areas and economically hard-hit communities which is a focus for President Biden as he aims to bring clean energy to disadvantaged communities.
